Where can I locate the manual for my fan?

The manual is included and is packaged with the fan. If the manual has been misplaced it can be downloaded from our Manuals page

How do I clean my fan?

Use soft brushes or cloths to prevent scratching. Cleaning products may damage the finishes.

What size fan do I need?

Choosing the right ceiling fan size is easy, as a guide; measure your room's area in square metres.

For rooms up to 13 sqm, select a 110cm (44”) fan; for 13-25 sqm, use a 130 (52”) cm fan, and larger rooms you need 132+ cm fans. For larger open plan living or outdoor areas consider using multiple fans.

What are some important factors to consider when choosing a fan?

  • Size of the area
  • Room type
  • Energy efficiency (AC or DC motor)
  • Do you need an integrated light
  • Quietness of the fan
  • Provision for mains power
  • Height of ceiling
  • Is the ceiling raked or vaulted
  • Design style

What is the difference between blade sizes and number of blades?

The size and number of blades on a ceiling fan impact performance differently:

  1. Blade size: Larger blades move more air and are ideal for larger rooms. Smaller blades suit compact spaces but may provide less airflow.
  2. Number of blades: Fewer blades (3 or 4) often result in faster rotation and better airflow efficiency, while fans with more blades (5 or 6) tend to run more quietly and smoothly but may move slightly less air.

Both factors affect airflow, noise levels, and design style.

Can I use the same fan for all areas?

You can use the same ceiling fan inside and outside, but it depends on the fan's rating:

  • Indoor-rated fans: These are not designed to handle outdoor conditions like moisture, humidity, or temperature changes, and should only be used indoors.
  • Damp-rated fans: Suitable for covered outdoor areas like porches or patios where they won’t be exposed to direct rain, but they can handle moisture and humidity.

Always check the fan's rating before installation.

Where can I purchase your fan?

Hunter fans are available at your local Bunnings Warehouse.

How can I save energy by having a fan?

You can save energy with a ceiling fan by:

  1. Reducing AC usage: Ceiling fans help circulate air, making rooms feel cooler, allowing you to set your thermostat higher and use less air conditioning.
  2. Running the fan in reverse in winter: Set the fan to spin clockwise at low speed to push warm air down, reducing heating costs.
  3. Choosing energy-efficient DC models: Ceiling fans with DC motors consume less electricity than AC motors.
  4. Using the right size: Ensure the fan size matches the room to avoid overuse of the motor.
  5. Turning off the fan: Only run it in occupied rooms. Fans cool people, not spaces.

Can I install my own ceiling fan?

By law, ceiling fans in Australia need to be installed by a licensed electrician, once installed your licensed electrician will provide you with a certificate of compliance.

Which Direction Should Your Ceiling Fan Spin for Summer and Winter?

Changing your ceiling fan direction seasonally is a simple way to save on energy costs, all-year-round. The ceiling fan direction in summer should be counterclockwise to help create a downdraft, which creates that direct, cooling breeze. Your fan direction in winter needs to be clockwise to create an updraft and circulate warm air around the room. By recirculating the warm air and distributing it back into the living space you can improve the average room temperature and keep your furnace from working overtime.

What do I do if my fan is making a noise?

Hunter fans are engineered to be whisper quiet, but sometimes unusual noises can occur as a result of faulty installation or environmental factors. Most of the time, a few adjustments to the fan's components will resolve the issues. Whether you have a Hunter fan or a model from another manufacturer, these simple troubleshooting tips may help you with your noisy fan.

Types of fan sounds

The type of noises your fan makes may help you narrow down the problem and find a solution. Explore the common fan sounds with tips on troubleshooting them below.

  • Clicking: Clicking noises in a fan are most often caused by a loose blade and/or loose blade holder screws. Check all the screws and tighten them as needed.
  • Rubbing noises: In some fan models, blade holders can be installed upside down. If the rubbing noise is resulting from blade holders touching the motor housing, the fan is most likely installed incorrectly. Please consult your owner's manual to ensure the blade holders are installed properly.
  • Crackling or sizzling: If you notice crackling or sizzling around your fan, you should turn off power to the fan immediately. If an odour like a popcorn-type smell is coming from your fan or you hear a crackling noise, you will need to contact our Customer Experience team to troubleshoot the source of the issue. Note: Always contact a certified electrician to do any necessary repairs, especially when wiring is involved.
  • Electrical buzzing or humming: An electrical buzz or hum can be caused by a variety of issues. Variable fan speed controls are operated by solid-state electronics which often can create a hum because they control the fan's speed differently. First, check that the light bulbs are the correct wattage. If the buzzing or humming persists, check the following parts:
  • Fan control receiver: If your ceiling fan has a control system with a receiver, a defective receiver can create a humming noise. Make sure you are using a control system that is compatible with your particular fan model – refer to your fan manual to verify compatibility.
  • Lights on dimmer switches: Light dimmer switches often create an electrical hum sound. We suggest using a Hunter control system to dim your ceiling fan lights.
  • House wiring: If you've tracked the buzzing to an outlet or wiring, arrange for a certified electrician to repair it.
  • Circuit breaker: An electrical hum can come out of a circuit breaker if it is overloaded with current and not shutting off as it's meant to. Please contact a certified electrician to investigate and repair the cause of the buzzing.
  • Fan motor: A defective motor can potentially cause buzzing. Once you have ruled out the other potential sources, contact our Customer Experience team to assist you further.

My LED light is buzzing. What can I do?

  2. Check dip switches are set to the same setting on both remote and receiver
  3. Disconnect and reconnect plugs ensuring they are making good contact.

Where can I find the date code of my ceiling fan?

The date code for your fan is a 4-digit number. For down rod mount fans, the date code will be on a sticker on the top of your fan's body.

For Low Profile fans, the sticker will be on the ceiling mounting bracket.  If your fan is installed, you can use a mirror to help by holding it above the fan facing the gold sticker or just take a picture with your phone.

Where can I find the model number on my fan?

The model number for your Hunter fan is a 5-digit number that my also include a letter at the end (e.g. 22345A).*

You will find the model number for all fans on the part guide or installation manual that came inside your ceiling fan box.

Alternatively, you can find the model number on the fan itself.

  • For Downrod-mount fans- ID sticker located on top of the motor housing (facing the ceiling of an installed fan). Look for number immediately after “MOD”.
  • For Low Profile (also called “Hugger”) fans- ID sticker is located on the mounting bracket. Look for number immediately after “MOD”.

To make it easier to read the model number on the motor housing (once it is installed):

  • Take a picture with your phone
  • Hold a small mirror above the fan facing the sticker

*Casablanca fans follow the same guidelines above except the model number can be alphanumeric and longer than 5 digits.
